Project Length: five weeks
People Being People
There are certain things about people that just happen—breathing, walking, talking, blinking—things done without thought. Sometimes you need to slow down and appreciate the little things that you never think about.
This mechanism eliminates all distractions and focuses on the small actions involved in blinking—including the slight movement of your eyebrows. These movements are controlled by a cam and platform system.

The Final Design
For the final automata, the idea was to have the eyes be partly open before cranking. This was done because the time that most people think about blinking is when they are trying to wake up. In forcing the eyes to only close so much, the resting face looks tired.
The eyebrows and mustache were made to complement one another and to show some personality through the design. When this project was completed, my younger brother started calling the product "Sir Sleepy Eyed Remington".
